JOB DESCRIPTION


BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: 
To ensure adequate and appropriate staffing of the facility nursing departments to meet the needs of the residents based on budget, census fluctuations, call-ins, pre-planned leaves of absence and as may be directed by the facility.

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:  HOURLY, NON-EXEMPT

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1.    High school diploma or equivalent.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

2.    Must have at a minimum a high school education or its equivalent.  Associates Degree preferred.

5.    Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
6.    Must possess legible handwriting and proficient typewriting skills
7.    Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel. 
8.    Must maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, personnel, and facility operations consistent with current regulations and acceptable standards of practice.
9.    Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
10.    Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
11.    Must be flexible with last-minute changes and fair when managing the needs of individual members of staff.
12.    Proficient on the computer, experience in Microsoft Office
13.    Attentive to details and organized
14.    Familiarity with union rules (CBA)

REPORTS TO:  
Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Maintain a current listing of all resident care employee phone numbers.
2.    Develop work schedules by allocating employees in shifts and positions.
3.    Assume responsibility for timekeeping and time off requests
4.    Reviewing requests for vacation, maternity leave, family medical leave ACT (FMLA), and unpaid leaves of absence.
5.    Collaborate with payroll to ensure correct employee compensation.
6.    Ensure compliance with internal and external policies and regulations.
7.    Prepare and submit reports on staffing operations.
8.    Update business office with current posting of all phone numbers for department heads.
9.    Maintain daily tardy and absenteeism calendars; assist in record keeping for employee performance appraisals.
10.    Work with Director of Staff Development and H.R. when scheduling modified work duty employees in accordance with work restrictions and facility policy.
11.    Other duties and responsibilities related as assigned by Charge Nurse or Director of Nurses.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION

The essential functions of this position require the following physical abilities:

1.    Standing and/or walking very frequently.  Sitting occasionally.
2.    Using hands to finger, handle or feel very frequently.
3.    Reaching with hands and arms very frequently, pushing/pulling very frequently. 
4.    Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling occasionally.
5.    Talking and/or hearing very frequently.
6.    Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently.
7.    Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception in vision; ability to adjust focus.

RISKS/EXPOSURE/LIMITATIONS
 
1.    May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
2.    May be subject to frequent interruptions.
3.    May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
4.    May be subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
5.    May be subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
6.    May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
7.    May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Full Time position

Mon. – Fri.  8:30am – 5:00pm or 9:00am – 5:30pm

Benefits after 60 day introduction period

$20.00/hr  non-exempt
